Hi, my name is Petra Hooyenga. I am the principal Clinical Nutritionist at Personal Health Leadership.
My journey with nutrition and health started 21 years ago, when my then infant child was diagnosed with a rare genetic abnormality, and the years following with ADD and Autism.
Personal Health Leadership has been my mantra ever since a medical specialist told me there was nothing I could do for my child, because “it was genetic”. Perhaps I could not change the genetic code itself, however I learned that through epigenetics I could make a positive difference to the health of my child with daily choices in healthy food and nutrition and other healthy lifestyle exposures. I felt empowered as a parent in my ability to support my child at home with healthy nutritious food, which subsequently led me to study Nutritional Medicine, and go on to support people with a wide range of health concerns.
As Nutritional Medicine Practitioner for more than10 years, I’ve always sought to bridge the science with the practical and common sense, focusing on strategies that deliver results and health outcomes, starting with food first. My MSc Nutritional Epidemiology and Public Health studies have deepened my understanding and given me a renewed sense of purpose to provide evidence-based and personalised nutritional advice and support addressing the common underlying inflammatory causes of many different chronic conditions.
With the advancements in genomic research, nutrition and testing I see my professional accreditation with world leaders in this field, such as Cell-Logic and 3×4 Genetics as an important part of being able to offer my clients a best practice standard of personalised nutrition advice and support.
To date I have had the privilege of helping many wonderful people on their journey of health and healing, and I am now especially dedicated to helping other families who like me are affected by Autism and related conditions.
